Lavender Dreams, Sunshine Beams

A whole field filled with the most richest color of purple! Ah, a dream come true. It feels like I’m entering a dream, as I walk through the lanes of flowers, the thick boroughs of the tightly knit petals brushing past my ankles; they give a rise to bees as they swarm around, trying to settle back down onto the flowers, feasting on the decadent nectar. Indeed, I’m talking about lavender.

There was a lavender festival near us recently, with farms and farms full of lavender planted neatly in rows, royal purple surrounding you completely. It was a magical sight, the smell of lavender wafting in the air, moving back and forth delicately as a wind brushes past. Sequim is a city known for its lavender festival, where people come from all over the world to step into dreamland, starting with numerous stalls.

A lot of them were lavender related, with lavender products. The very first one was beautifully carved soap in the shapes of lavender and engravings of the flowers, the lavender scent prominent as I lift it towards my nose. Another unique thing I found were lavender wreaths, the individual flowers beautifully woven together to form the classic circle, hearts, and even a frame. I loved how the individual flowers came together as a form of unity, dwindling together to form something wonderful.

As with the best pairings, bees and lavenders are the best duo. The honey is just another benefit that comes with it. A lot of the stalls were selling honey, with various different types, ranging from the traditional sweet to the hot chili. They gave out samples of the unique ones, some traditional, while some whipped, so that they tasted a bit like butter. Of course, we got the traditional lavender honey at a lavender festival, big surprise; though we also got vanilla and orange honey, which was unique and had a little bit of a citrus-y taste. These flavors are infused within the honey, after it has already been extracted. To do that, they take a small sample of the flavor, in this case, orange, and put it in the honey, its flavors slowly creeping into the amber liquid, the flavor transforming and your taste buds glittering with delight.

One of my favorite things about the festival is the vibe. I love the chattering I hear everywhere as I walk past the stalls, families eating lunch, the sizzling of the oil at one of the food stations, different smells wafting in the air. It feels like I’m in an international food festival as I see so many different cuisines all around me. The scent itself got my mouth watering.

Carrying our lunch with us, we went towards the main farm, gorging our eyes on the wonderful sight. Purple strands of flowers swaying with the breeze, ankle length, tickling my legs as I walk through, scattering the bees. The amount of photos we took that day will never be as good as the fresh memories in our mind, the sight a constant tape in my head, still feeling like a dream.
