Serenity of a Lake!

I love the water. ever since I was a little girl, lakes and seas always mesmerized me, their cold, peaceful waves drifting with the wind. The way the sunlight danced on the water, reflecting the blue sky always made me smile. The serenity you experience at a lake or a river is unparallel. It’s peaceful, looking out into the water, surrounded by it to as far as you can see. This is why I am glad I live in a place with a lot of water bodies. Seattle is home to multiple of them, as it is a city bursting with rain. One of my few favorites are a 10 min walk from my house.

There’s a river connected to a trail right near my house, one where my friends, family and I go on to bike, walk, or even rollerblade. The river runs right besides the road, peacefully drifting forward, the occasional wind rushing on top of the water. You can see kayakers there, wading through the water, pushing against the mild current of the river. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you’ll see beavers swimming through the water, their cute snouts pushing through the water and their cheeky eyes darting from place to place.

Along with the river trail, the lakes nearby are also really special to my friends and me. The Sammamish Lake is the first lake I ever swam in, wading through the water, squealing whenever my feet grazed past the seaweed on the bottom. It’s a great summer tradition here, where a lot of high schoolers go together to the lake, swim, and have a picnic. One of the most classic picnic snacks are chocolate strawberries, where the sweet and tangy strawberries are coated in creamy milk chocolate, hands messy as you dip your feet in the water, eating them. This is one of my favorite summer traditions and it’s something I look forward to every year.

There’s something special in the serenity of the water, when you go underwater it’s all you hear: silence. I love the way the waves rock around you, and the sound of the water as you splash your hands along it. Some of the lakes here are filled with water every summer as the ice from glaciers and mountains melt. Those are my favorite lakes as the water is always clear and turquoise as it glints the rays of the sun.

Another reason why the lake is so special is because every time before our school dances, we go to one to take sunset photos. Sunsets at lakes are amazing because of the way the golden hour is reflected in the water, the light falling perfectly on Mt. Rainier nearby, the view a perfect scene out of a postcard. It’s enthralling to dress up with friends and go to the lake, and it’s part of our dance traditions.

It truly a magical feeling, being at a lake. Its like you never want to leave, the magic of the sunlight and the view captivating you, freezing the time. Kayaking or swimming in the postcard view itself was a really new concept for me when I first moved here. It grew on me, and the lake became a part of my cherished summer routine.
