There are a lot of experiences to experience in the world, with a lot of them on my bucket list as well. Over time, I’ve managed to check some of them off, including a very important one this weekend. Shreya Ghoshal’s concert! It was truly a once in a lifetime experience, and an important check in my bucket list.
The initial moments once we entered the arena were ethereal. There was buzz about the concert, people wearing Indian attire, and a lot of Indian food. Everywhere I looked, I could see a splash of color, whether it was the food, clothes, or the enormous posters of her concert.

Slowly, everyone started veering off to the auditorium, settling in their seats, creaking and craning as there was a buzz of chatter audible across the entire room. People were excited. I craned my neck, the front of my chair creaking as I leaned in for a closer look at the band of instruments arranged neatly on the stage, waiting to be played and carry their ethereal music towards the audience.
Suddenly, the lights went out, the spotlight came on, and music started playing. It sounded familiar, the beat vibrating to the rhythm of my heart, beating loudly as everyone looked at each other, trying to recognize the song. And there it was, the winning beat, as everyone roared and whooped in their seats, ready to sing along as the icon of the show, Shreya Ghoshal, walked in.
One after the other, she kept on going with her songs, me singing along, matching the rhythm to every one of them, belting out the words and swaying to the rhythm of the music. I loved the part where she would pause her singing in the middle of the song, but keep the music, so that the audience can finish the verse, all 6000 people becoming one voice as the room came alive with the sound.
Every shining light, every breath, every verse, every beat in the music was articulated so perfectly through the concert that it felt like we were all one person, coming together to celebrate, in what my opinion is one of the best voices in India currently, with the best songs.
She sang songs ranging through all eras, with old songs, new songs, energetic vs mild. She began the concert with a few of her classics, Sun Raha Hai, Piyu Bole, Saibo, and Mastani. Once the audience was acclimatized to the show and comfortable enough to sing along, she added the most perfect introduction to the song Barse Re, adding rain sound effects and thunder in the background screen. One of the coolest aspects of the show were her introducing some of her songs based on the hook steps, with everyone hooting and screaming in recognition.
The last leg of the concert was all her most energetic songs, including Chikni Chameli, Radha, Ghoomar, and Nagada Sang Dhol. That was when everyone got out of their seats, and were dancing along with belting out the lyrics, creating a vibration under everyone’s feet. The smile on everyone’s face was priceless, my face flushed due to the exertion, but my grin just as wide, as the last beat ricocheted off the walls, and the show came to an end.
It was truly one of my favorite nights, me smiling all the way home, watching and revisiting my memories in the small screen of my phone, the memory captured there for a lifetime.
